Papal encyclical on environment in process | National Catholic Reporter

Papal encyclical on environment in process | National Catholic Reporter  Congratulations to Pope Francis!  May Leaders of other Religions continue their own efforts and join his major effort on this overarching challenge of the 21st century.  Some progress has been made.  However, the Golden Rule in all religions now needs to encompass more than human neighbors.  How hospitable are we?  Humans have human rights. Other Earth inhabitants have their own rights.  This is a moral challenge.  Whom or what do we really value on our Journey to become all that we can be together?
How are we loving our neighbors if we tolerate the diminishment or destruction of what they need for life?

Our children and grandchildren cannot become what they are called to be on an unhealthy planet. A sick planet hurts the poor the most.  As children's bodies feed on nourishing  food, so their minds feast on beauty.  Human children need the "plant children", the "animal children", "Brother Sun", "Sister Moon" and stars, etc..  All give glory to God and are summoned to be part of a harmonious whole.  Decisions now shape the future for our children and grandchildren.  Will we choose mere surviving (for awhile) or thriving?  Death or Life? Indifference or Love?  Dishonoring or honoring the loving Creator and Sustainer of all Life?

  1. Good for Pope Francis! I'm in my 60's. In my whole life I've never heard a sermon on the environment.
