Sister Simon notes that Catholic sisters work with those in the margin of our society as we have already seen in class. She also notes that there are alternatives to the Ryan Budget such as the Faithful Budget. We should not cut services to the lower income in our society, and it’s not by hurting the working poor and giving greater tax breaks for the wealthy through which the deficit will be reduced. “Reasonable Revenue for Responsible Programs” is suggested. As a nation we must raise our taxes, we must stand together as a nation and we should not be individualistic. Those at the margins of our society should be protected, not those at the top. I find this to go in accordance with CST, especially its emphasis on the common good, community, and preferential option for the poor. To tackle our nation’s problems, we need to work together to make a positive impact and not be individualistic. We are called to work together and be “lights for each other in this world” (as Miguel said), to help the less privileged.
This extrovert loves Life including, at times the plenitude of silence! I enjoy my Congregation of St. Joseph Community, family, friends, co-workers, the ideals and energy of young adults, the experience and wisdom of elders, animals, especially, dogs and horses, good conversation, humor, teaching, walking, dancing, swimming, baking, tennis and organizations like the American Teilhard Association and the Sisters of the Earth. It was my privilege to be Thomas Berry's graduate assistant. I have taught Spirituality, organized Sewing Clubs and co-produced Radio Programs in Zambia. Travels have taken me to Ireland, Great Britain, Africa, Italy and Canada. My involvements have included Spiritual Formation, Retreats, Spiritual Direction, and Workshops, along with Ecological, Interfaith, Social Justice and U.N. Activities.
