How do we keep the Christmas spirit and other feasts alive on our common Journey?
Howard Thurman 20th century minister and writer urges the following:

"When the song of the angels is stilled,
when the star in the sky is gone,
when the kings and princes are home,
when the shepherds are back with their flocks,
the work of Christmas begins:
to find the lost,
to heal the broken,
to feed the hungry,
to release the prisoner,
to rebuild the nations,
to bring peace among the people,"

THE IMMEDIATE CHALLENGE IS TO HELP OUR SISTERS AND BROTHERS IN HAITI. We cannot do everything, but each of us can do something. Love not just in words, but in deeds keeps love alive.

  1. I agree. We must help Haiti. These are neighbors right in our backyard. These are fellow human beings who are desperate just for water and something to eat. Why this earthquake happened to people who are so poor in the first place, I don't know. However, I do know if we were in the same position we would want someone to help us. It's just the human thing, the right thing to relieve such immense suffering over necessities and anxiety about loved ones.

  2. Love is not crocodile tears or wishful thinking. Love calls for sacrifice and will power that perseveres in great difficulties.
"Love in practice is a harsh and dreadful thing compared to love in dreams." Dostoevsky* Some volunteer in such disasters. Even if we are hurting, most of us can open up our wallets.

  5. The earthquake in Haiti is such a disaster. However, the good thing it is bringing a lot of us together to help and for a time to actually experience "We Are the World".
